There are very few things that have the ability to affect our lives, our work, or our stress levels like the relationships we have and the people we know.
'Handling My Relationships Less Disastrously' is now also a comedic hour long INSET seminar that will teach valuable people skills, bring some light relief to your day and help to create a happier and healthier working culture that will benefit everyone.
As important as it is for staff to have good knowledge, and be good at communicating it, they will need to be good with people.
People skills (or a lack of them) drastically affect the culture amongst your staff, their ability to do the job, the progression of their careers and their personal lives and stress levels.
Through comedy, music, multimedia and wisdom distilled from a catalogue of unsuccessful romances Chris highlights the principles and importance of positive, productive and mutually beneficial relationships:
THE SERIOUS BITS
Communication
Good communication is the lifeblood of relationships. Poor communication can be the source of much frustration and dissent. In this section Chris gives his top tips for improving our communication, including his humorous observations on listening skills and body language.
Consideration
Being careful about what we do and particularly what we say will help us to avoid unnecessary conflict and bad feeling, leading to a better working environment. Here Chris explores the importance of sensitivity, empathy and consideration for the feelings of others.
Confrontation
‘Brushing things under the carpet’ or ‘keeping the peace’ can sometimes be counter-productive. In this section Chris outlines the need to confront issues and gives some advice on the best ways to do it.
Contribution
People need to be valued and appreciated, but feel appreciation in different ways. Here Chris highlights the five ‘languages of appreciation’, and shares some simple ideas on how we can make positive contributions to the people we live and work with, creating a more caring environment.
Commitment
Through time, skill, good decisions and hard work, people and organisations can build positive and productive relationships and lasting committed friendships. Chris finishes the session by encouraging individuals to take responsibility for the significant part they play in the success and lives of others.
